You are looking at the best of both worlds: this is an American Models Budd corrugated “steel” (fantastic chromed plastic) streamliner passenger set in S scale hi rail, just like your vintage American Flyer. It looks absolutely like new. It comes in the original box with instructions. AND it is in your favorite roadname, the Santa Fe. The set comes with. Based on real cars. Operating AF compatible couplers. Die-cast and composite trucks. Trucks sprung and fully functional. With 36 precision brass wheel-sets. Die-cast frame with fine detailing. Operates on AF curves. Separately applied steel grab irons. Separately applied truck details. HI RAIL, like your Flyer (versus Scale wheels). A little history for you: Budd company’s new passenger cars used a special type of shot-weld construction for all stainless steel cars which Budd patented. These cars were more cosmetically appealing than Pullman Standard cars and would prove more durable than those of conventional steel alloy. Pennsy’s Budd cars delivered in the late 1930’s were used extensively on the “Senator” and “Congressional” trains known as the “Congo” scheme. The Pennsy and B&O also used Budd cars in connector routes with other roads south and west to cosmetically match other railroads passenger car trains. CONDITION: Looks like new in every respect. I listed as like new as I think it could have been on the rails, but it certainly looks new. The chrome is beautiful. Keep in mind that these chrome cars are hard to photograph.
