6 WALTHERS HO SCALE GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY “EMPIRE BUILDER” PASSENGER CARS. Features include authentic Great Northern designs, realistic satin paint finish, car name and number decals, working diaphrams, knuckle couplers, detailed truck sideframes, and metal wheels/axles. I don’t believe any of the cars have lighting but they supposedly have factory-installed electrical pickups for easy DC or DCC interior lighting installation. The following cars are included. ACF Baggage – U. The cars vary slightly in size but are generally about 11 1/2″ long and 1 7/8″ tall. Each comes with its original box and internal packaging. An instruction/parts sheet is also included for each car. Several of the cars have decal sheets. Some decals have already been attached by the previous owner (expert quality). Unveiled in June 1929, the “Empire Builder” quickly established itself as the flagship passenger train of the Great Northern. It ran from Chicago via the Burlington to St. Paul to Seattle, with a separate section to Portland. Post-war plans for the new streamlined version were unveiled in early 1945 with the arrival of EMD E7A-A diesels attired in brilliant Omaha Orange and Pullman Green (later known as the Empire Builder scheme). The Empire Builder reached its pinnacle of luxury in 1955 with the arrival of brand-new Vista-Dome and full or Great Dome cars offering incredible views of western scenery. This longer and heavier train was pulled by A-B-B-A sets of F units. Based on the 1955 train, Walthers developed this series of authentic models to re-create this legendary streamliner. Condition of this Walthers Great Northern passenger car set is VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT. The paint generally looks very good. I noticed a scratch on top of the ACF Ranch Lounge car (see photo). Also, there are some loose windows at one end of the Budd Great View Dome Lounge car (see photo) that should be simple to reattach. As I mentioned previously, some of the decals have been expertly installed by the previous owner. I don’t believe these cars were ever on a track, but I can’t be completely certain. The boxes are generally in good shape with light shelf wear, but several have water damage on the end flaps (see photo). Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. I HAVE SEVERAL OTHER TRAINS FOR SALE THIS WEEK. See my other listings. For more great items!
