The International Apple Organization (IAO) organized journeys with special trains crosswise over Europe during the 1970’s. In 1976, the IAO took over from the German Federal Railroads the well-known “Rheingold” Aussichtswagen and other cars from their car park. Over the years, In the friendly “Apfelpfeil” Design, the remarkable journeys became brand names for trips with comfort and animation at reasonable prices. With increasing competition by package tours with charter aircrafts, it eventually became unfeasible economically to continue, and in 1979 the IAO had to declare bankruptcy.
